With 25 years of experience in the field and widely considered the leading international economic advisor of his generation, Sachs has been in the forefront of the challenges of economic development, poverty alleviation, and enlightened globalization.
Named among the “100 most influential leaders in the world” by Time magazine in 2004 and 2005, Jeffrey D. Sachs is the Director of The Earth Institute, Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development, and of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University. He is also a Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General and from 2002 to 2006, he was Director of the UN Millennium Project. He was recently elected into the Institute of Medicine and is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. Prior to joining Columbia, he spent 20 years at Harvard University. He is author of hundreds of articles and many books —his most recent, The End of Poverty:Economic Possibilities for Our Time, and has received numerous awards including the 2005 Sargent Shriver Award for Equal Justice.
